Former 45th Ordnance Company Commander, Retired U.S. Army Maj. Andrew Gray Entwistle, 53, of Lansing Kansas, passed away, Tuesday, March 31, 2015, while out on his morning run, something he loved to do.

He was born on March 21, 1962, in South Laguna, Calif., to Charles and Susan (MacDonald) Entwistle.

Andy was raised in Needham, Mass., with his mother, his sister, Jennifer and his loving grandparents, Gilbert MacDonald and Fannie Clapp MacDonald.

Upon completion of the Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps curriculum at Northeastern University in Boston, he was commissioned a second lieutenant in the Ordnance Branch. Andy was a veteran of Operation Desert Storm and retired from the Army in 2007 after 22 years of service. During his career, Andy served in Colorado, Maryland, Germany, Virginia, Egypt, Texas, and finally Albany, New York, where he retired. After his active-duty service ended, Andy continued in federal service first with the Albany Recruiting Battalion and then with the Command and General Staff College as a plans specialist.

In 2010, Andy married Tisha Marie Swart-Entwistle. She survives at the home. He is also survived by his mother, Susan MacDonald Entwistle of Albany; daughter, Heather Harrington of Nassau, N.Y.; son A.J. Entwistle and his wife Eden of Watervliet, N.Y.; son Liam Johnson of Lansing; daughter Zoe Hines of Lansing; sister Jennifer Entwistle and her husband Bill MacKay of Newburyport, Mass.; grandson Andrew Clapp Crawford of Nassau,N.Y.; grandson Caleb Shelton and granddaughter Ava Shelton both of Watervliet; an uncle and aunt, Doug and Marge MacDonald of Colorado; father and mother-in-law, Richard and Thelma Swart of Lansing; sister and brother-in-law, Stacy and Jerry Davis of Lansing; and three nephews Xzavier Holecek, Taylor Holecek, and Dakota Davis of Lansing. Andy is also survived by his close friends, Mark and Jane Wolfe of Thousand Oaks, Calif.; Bill Burdick of Boston; and Brian and Jennifer Weets of St. Joseph, Mo.

During his military and federal careers, Andy also found time to volunteer with two fire departments, the Stratmoor Hills Fire Department in Colorado Springs, Colo., and the South Schodack Fire Department in N.Y. He also volunteered as an ambulance driver with the Castleton Ambulance Company. Once he moved to Kansas, Andy became active with Tisha in the local community theater, the River City Community Players.

A celebration of Andy’s life was held on Saturday, April 4, 2015, at the R.L. Leintz Funeral Home. Visitation was from 10 a.m. to noon at the funeral home. Following the service, a meal was served at the Crossroads United Methodist Church on the corner of Gilman Road and 7 Highway in Lansing. Cremation will follow the services and he will be taken back to the family plot in Paxton, Mass., later this spring.

In lieu of flowers, Andy asked that donations be made in his name to the South Schodack Volunteer Fire Company, 1567 Bame Road, Castleton-On-Hudson, NY 12033.

  1. I was with 45th Ordnance Company in Desert Shield/Desert Storm, but my name is not listed. I left Saudi Arabia in March 1991 due to the death of my mother, and was not there when this picture was taken. My name and rank at the time was Spc Mary Mitchell. I would appreciate it if you could add it to the list. Thank you!
